Radiohead showed that thanks to the internet, a band with a following no longer needs a record company or distributor to sell millions of albums, and generate more than an estimated $20 million in income, as they did with their online album In Rainbows.
Now RadioHead frontman Thom Yorke claims the entire corporate music industry is gasping its last breaths :
Yorke has issued a warning to upcoming artists, urging them not to sign traditional record deals because they would be tying themselves to "the sinking ship."
Yorke claims the music industry is on the verge of a major crisis and could collapse completely within "months".
"It will be only a matter of time - months rather than years - before the music business establishment completely folds. (It will be) no great loss to the world."
