2010 UK ELECTION SPECIAL

Normally I try to avoid bothering with all this crap, seeing it somewhere between scary and funny, but unbelievably some people are taking it seriously. So for their benefit, here we go....

In contemporary research and clinical practice, Robert D. Hare's "Psychopathy Checklist-Revised" is the psycho-diagnostic tool most commonly used to assess if someone is a psychopath.

Here is the check list:
1. Glibness/superficial charm
2. Grandiose sense of self-worth
3. Pathological lying
4. Cunning/manipulative
5. Lack of remorse or guilt
6. Emotionally shallow
7. Callous/lack of empathy
8. Failure to accept responsibility for own actions

Remember that not all violent offenders are psychopaths and not all psychopaths are violent offenders.
Some psychopathic personality traits seem attractive in politicians and get them elected. Traits such as: assertiveness, ability to appear genuine when faking sincerity and honesty. ability to quickly assess vulnerabilities in people and manipulate them, shallowness, take-charge narcissism and expertise of schmoozing and networking, etc.

While the psychopath is charming and makes friends easily, those who come to rely upon him soon painfully find out that he has no sense of responsibility. Continually promises are made and broken without regard for the gravity of the consequences, for which the psychopath will then deny responsibility. He can solemnly lie while looking the victim in the eye, showing no anxiety whatever. If you want the best examples think……

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky".

and

"The document discloses that his military planning allows for some of the WMD to be ready within 45 minutes of an order to use them."

These guys are Hollywood's top psychopaths, each one has played the role more than once.

Kevin Spacy

Joe Pesci

Mat Damon

Anthony Hopkins

John Malkovich and Glen Close

John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson

On TV we get:

Dexter

Blackadder

The aliens in V

and Tony Soprano

They’ll say anything – lie or truth. A psychopath will lie through his teeth no problem. However, if telling the truth will attain his goal a psychopath may well do that rather than lie.
In other words, to concentrate on the lies of the psychopath is to miss the fact that for the psychopath his truths play precisely the same role as his lies.

Don't listen to the way they say it, listen what they say, they are all perverting the language.

George Orwell once argued that "political language has to consist largely of euphemism, question-begging and sheer cloudy vagueness."
In the same essay, he added that such language was "designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable."

Politicians are almost incapable of speaking in a clear, open way. Instead, they hide behind platitudes and long-winded sentences to deceive the public.
When we get down to it they are all the same firm, we only have an election to decide who sits where at Westminster. What all parties agree on is the issues they will NOT talk about.

"The greatest triumphs of propaganda have been accomplished, not by doing something, but by refraining from doing. Great is truth, but still greater, from a practical point of view, is silence about truth, by simply not mentioning certain subjects"

Aldous Huxley in the Preface to his 1931 novel "Brave New World".

These are the subjects they DON'T want to talk about:

GLOBAL WARMING.Prove it, or stop taxing it. A consensus is not science....it's just a consensus. There used to be a consensus that the sun went around the earth.

WAR. Uh...good god lord... what is it good for....and when is it going to end?

DRUGS. Politicians say “Marijuana may not be so dangerous in itself, but it’s a gateway drug. 85% of heroin addicts started out on marijuana.” This is apparently true, but 100% started out on milk.

IMMIGRATION. If they answer questions on illegal immigration then they are seen as "racist" and "xenophobic".

BANKS, BONUSES AND DEBT. Why did we bail out banks? Why did we pay out bonuses for incompetence? Can you explain how any of this is good and what you are going to DO about it?

MP's EXPENSES: You must be joking

Remember folks, only around 8,000 peoples votes counted in the last election (see last Septembers blog) and it doesn't matter who you vote for....the government gets in!
