Whatever Happened To The Anti-War Movement? -- Linton Weeks, NPR

The United States is knee-deep in at least three international military conflicts at the moment — in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.

American lives are being lost. Innocent civilians are being killed. Several of the engagements appear to be primed for protraction. The wars are expensive in other ways, too.

At least since the stormy 1960s, whenever America has gotten involved in deadly combat on foreign soil, large crowds of peace-promoting citizens have gathered in Washington and other cities to demonstrate against war.

My Comment: My gut tells me that if a Republican should win the Presidency in 2012 .... and the wars are still continuing .... expect the anti-war movement to reappear in a few months.

In 2003, during anti-War On Iraq protests, the Australian prime minister was kidnapped by an activist and interrogated for 24 hours. The disappearance of the prime minister was officially covered up as an "unexpected visit to the hospital", but a documentary maker, shooting interviews during the largest anti-war protests in Australian history, captured most of the interrogation on camera. Now, seven years later, the footage is being made public for the first time.
