WAS ANYBODY LISTENING?
Only 4% of people polled by CBS News after November's election thought that Congress should focus on deficits, and only 2% thought Washington should make taxes its highest priority.
Politicians and the media obsessed over them and ignored the topic that 56% of the public considered its highest priority: jobs and the economy.
When asked how we should cut the deficit, the public would rather raise taxes on the wealthy than cut Social Security - by more than two to one.
72% want the government to crack down on Wall Street more than it has.
81% want the government to do more to reduce poverty.
Eight out of ten oppose cutting Medicare.
It's not "pragmatic" to reject positions that are popular with the public are most likely to improve the economy.
Remember, Nixon shattered the Democratic Party by linking them to "hippies." Most Americans hated longhaired demonstrators, and Nixon used that hatred to crush liberalism. But being associated with these despised, scruffy peaceniks didn't just defeat the Democrats: It traumatized them. They were painted a fuzzy-haired members of a pointy-headed elite, and it took them generations to get over the shock.
Apparently some of them still aren't over it because I get comments, always in an anonymous form like this:
“This is fuckin stupid, if the world was left up to you liberal hippies the united states would be an aids infested jungle with hippies banging on the drums and smoking pot...this county has gone straight to hell with obama...he has broken this country and is slowly breaking this country away from the principles this country was founded on..please go live in a dictatorship country like china or korea u fuckin idiot......”
Do you see as I do several themes running through here? Liberals=hippies, AIDS=hippies smoking pot;Obama=breaking our country, principles this country was founded on=go live in China or Korea…and for good measure a personal insult.
And the issue continues to be giving in to Republican demands that we get into debt to give a tax extension to the rich…what are we all thinking? What is the President thinking and who is he listening to?
And below a few little graphs and charts to cheer you up…not!
Take a look and see if it doesn’t look like 1929
By all means, let’s keep giving the rich tax breaks even after death…that way they can take it with them
And when any budget reductions are to be made the Republicans go after Social Security…no mention of the unnecessary wars or the tax cuts for those super rich.
