HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE.

When the clock strikes 12 it will becomes 1/1/11, which will freak out the conspiracy theorists until 2012.

We have had to say goodbye to these guys this year.

"Don't laugh at me 'cos I'm a fool.".....er....OK.

Michael Foot, The last socialist Labour leader in Britain. His 1983 manifesto was quoted as being "The longest suicide note in history."
He vowed not to die until Plymouth Argyle reached the Premier league. At the age of 90 it looked like time was running out, so to make up for their failure the club registered him as a player. He remains, to this day, the oldest player ever registered to play in the Football League.

Danno didn't just get booked....he got sent off!

If you happen to see Ingrid Pitt from now on....run!

"Your mission, Jim, should you decide to accept it, is to pretend you are dead....As usual, should you or any member of your I.M. Force be captured or killed, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your existence. This tape will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, Jim."

Davy Crockett "King of the wild frontier." Was personally responsible for the disappearance of a large number of domestic cats throughout the western world in the mid 1950's.

Songwriter George David Weiss died this year aged 89.
One of my favorite songs ever is "Stay with me" by Loraine Ellison. She only got the studio time because Frank Sinatra cancelled his session at the last moment and the band had already been paid for. For three minutes the gods smiled on Lorraine as she sang the gut wrenching song straight from inside her soul to her man who is leaving her, begging him to stay. The song was a minor hit in the US and did nothing here, but over the years it gained momentum.
The song is so good it was featured in the movie "The Rose" with Bette Midler and has been covered by: Mary J Blige, The Walker Brothers, David Essex, Ruby Turner, Rebecca Wheatley, Janis Joplin, Genya Ravan, Terry Reid, Sharon Tandy and Les Fleur de Lys, Natalie Cole, Jimmy Witherspoon, Kiki Dee, Shirley Brown, Whitesnake, Ronnie Montrose and more recently Duffy. Some of these were hits but nobody tears your heart out like Lorraine .
The point is it was written by George Weiss, the master of tearing your heart out. He wrote Elvis' best remembered love song, "Can't help falling in love with you", which was based on the French classical tune Plaisir d'Amour and featured in the movie Blue Hawaii.
In 1968 Louis Armstrong sold a million copies of Weiss' "What a wonderful world" and since then it has been recorded by the world and his wife. At the moment it's being played by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole on the Hawaiian ukulele with 15M hits on youTube.
Weiss' other memorable recordings have been: "Mr Wonderful" for Peggy Lee, "Lullaby of Birdland" for Ella Fitzgerald and "The lion sleeps tonight" for whoever sang it.
He couldn't stay with us, but he was able to make it a wonderful world for us to live in. Bye bye George.
