The Dead Zone

The grim, appalling reality of the Louisiana coastline that BP is hiding from you, and President Obama :
"When we found this dolphin it was filled with oil. Oil was just pouring out of it. It was the saddest darn thing to look at.

"There is a lot of coverup for BP. They specifically informed us that they don't want these pictures of the dead animals. They know the ocean will wipe away most of the evidence.

"The things I've seen: They just aren't right. All the life out here is just full of oil.

"When you see some of the things I've seen, it would make you sick. No living creature should endure that kind of suffering."

"I saw a pelican under water with only its wing sticking out. I grabbed it and lifted it out of the water. It was just covered in oil. It was struggling so hard to survive. We did what we could for it.

"Nature is cruel, but what's happening here is crueler."

The latest attempt by robots to stop the BP Gulf Gusher have failed. The oil is pouring from the deepest well ever drilled at an even greater rate. The oil is saturating the Louisiana coastline, it's reached Alabama and tomorrow it is expected to start washing up on the beaches of Florida.

Hurricane season begins today. Meteorologists are predicting dozens of large and small storms. Scientists can only can only guess at how monumental the disaster will become if, or when, the hurricanes pick up the oil and spread it further inland.

Meanwhile, BP is denying claims by dozens of scientists, and marine specialists, that huge clouds of oil are hidden from view below the surface of the Gulf :

BP's chief executive, Tony Hayward, said it had no evidence of underwater oil clouds. "The oil is on the surface," he said. "Oil has a specific gravity that's about half that of water. It wants to get to the surface because of the difference in specific gravity."

Hayward's assertion flies in the face of studies by scientists at universities in Florida, Georgia and Mississippi, among other institutions, who say they have detected huge underwater plumes of oil, including one 120 metres (400ft) deep about 50 miles from the destroyed rig.

BP is lying, and deceiving the White House and the American people, over the size of the spread of oil, because it faces fines per barrel spilled, per day.

The US Military said they have no technology greater than that available to BP to stop the flow.

The worst case scenario, for now, is that the oil will continue to pour into the Gulf, tens of thousands of barrels per day, until Christmas at least :
Ending the year with a still-gushing well would mean about 4 million barrels of oil spilled into the Gulf, based on the government’s current estimate of 12,000 to 19,000 barrels leaking a day. That would wipe out marine life deep at sea near the leak and elsewhere in the Gulf, and along hundreds of miles of coastline....

So much crude pouring into the ocean may alter the chemistry of the sea, with unforeseeable results....
