Was it anywhere near that funny when it was first screened in American cinemas and drive-ins five decades ago? Probably not. We like to believe that audiences cowered in fear at shit-crazy science fiction films in the 1950s, but they probably enjoyed them then as we much as we giggle at the old trailers today.
